Ms. Sybil Sanchez-Gonzalez, Spanish teacher at Randolph High School proudly represents Randolph Schools as the current president of the NJ Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
Sybil wrote about her presenting at the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese conference in Salamanca Spain, this summer.
"Teaching is not only my profession but one of my passions. I have been teaching Spanish as a World Language, Spanish for Native/Heritage Speaker and recently AP Spanish Literature and Culture. Teaching these classes has equipped me to incorporate literature as a tool in my classes and as I reflected on my journey, I submitted my proposal to present the workshop “La literatura como auxiliar en la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera”. I was proudly selected to present it at the 100th AATSP Conference June 25-28, 2018 in Salamanca, Spain where I had the opportunity to share some strategies that I use with the required reading list from the AP Spanish Literature and Culture as we attempt to capture the intrinsic world of the authors, having Literature and/or Languague as a final goal. We also reflected on the use of literary work as a vehicle to trigger language acquisition according to certain proficiency levels, cultural conversations, cultural understanding, connections and comparisons with today’s history."
