The month of May has been an exciting time for our K-5 teachers within the realm of professional learning.
On May 21st, during our district early release day, teachers attended and facilitated over 25 sessions on a wide range of topics from Mindfulness and Nutrition to Math Talks and Math pre-assessments. Teachers were able to select the professional learning that most pertained to their own individual growth goal. Our teachers demonstrated a great deal of leadership in both organizing and actively participating in these dynamic sessions.
On May 24th, we concluded our 2017-2018 Student Centered Learning Series, this choice-based series included 34 teachers from grade K-5 who explored the complex instructional beliefs of student centered instruction. Together these teachers grappled through dimensions of instruction and further defined these structures through the development of a continuum with the goal of student centered instruction.
On May 30th and 31st, we were extremely fortunate to have Ms. Susan O'Connell, author of Math in Practice, in Randolph. Ms. O'Connell worked with both our 4th and 5th grade teachers and administrators in facilitating growth in the area of mathematical thinking. These sessions focused on supporting our teachers in growing instructional strategies to facilitate practice in relevant mathematical proficiency.
In early June, we look forward to our final session of the Writing Cohort with Ms. Jennifer Serravallo to wrap up an incredible year of opportunities for both our staff and in turn our students.
